In Kentucky, the law allows loans backed by a car title only in limited forms. Lending there is overseen by the Kentucky Department of Financial Institutions (DFI). These are the main points of state law.

License

No title pledge license exists after the 2024 repeal; vehicle-secured consumer loans require a consumer loan company license under KRS 286.4 from the Kentucky Department of Financial Institutions.

Rates

Kentucky's title pledge lending subtitle (KRS 286.10-200 to 286.10-285 and 286.10-991) was repealed by 2024 Ky. Acts ch. 152 (HB 726, signed April 9, 2024), so the Title Pledge Lender license no longer exists.

A vehicle-secured consumer loan may still be made by a licensed consumer loan company under KRS 286.4-530 at that statute's rates (3%/2.42%/2.25% per month tiers, up to $15,000), which contemplates certificate-of-title lien fees.

High-cost title pledge/title loan products are not available.

Fees

If made by a consumer loan licensee: only the charges allowed by KRS 286.4-530, including fees for noting or releasing a lien on a certificate of title.

What to check first in Kentucky

Four steps, all from your phone

There's no store to visit. You can do every part of it online, wherever you are.

  1. Start your free estimate

Give us the basics: mileage, year, make and model, plus your ZIP code. That's about two minutes of your time, and it's free.

Tip: Have your mileage handy. A newer vehicle with fewer miles tends to qualify for more.

  2. See if your vehicle qualifies

Next, your vehicle's value is worked out from recent market prices. That number is the starting point for what you can borrow.

  3. Upload your documents

Send a photo ID, your vehicle title and proof that you bring in at least $1,500 a month.

Tip: Gather everything before you start. It keeps things moving.

  4. Sign and get your money

Once you're approved, you sign online. Money is sent by wire, check or direct deposit and can arrive in as little as 24 hours.
